Brasília – Brazil’s National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS) unanimously approved, on Monday (July 28), the inclusion of new oncology care standards in its Certification Program of Good Practices in Healthcare for private health insurance providers.

The update incorporates guidelines from the OncoRede Oncology Care Certification Manual and modifies Normative Resolution No. 506/2022. The decision was made during the 10th Extraordinary Meeting of ANS’s Board of Directors, following Public Consultation No. 144/2024, which received over 63,000 contributions — the largest volume in the agency’s history.

The new version of the regulation establishes technical criteria to recognize health plans that implement structured oncology care practices. The certification model emphasizes initiatives such as:

  • Continuous monitoring by multidisciplinary teams
  • Faster access to treatment
  • Implementation of patient navigation programs

These strategies aim to improve the coordination and efficiency of cancer care delivery in Brazil’s supplementary healthcare system.
