Brasília – Amid the tariff hike crisis and concerns over its impact on industry, the government announced it will give preference to domestic manufacturers in the purchase of $480 million worth of equipment for the Unified Health System (SUS).

Even if prices are 10% to 20% higher than those of international competitors, national products will take priority.

The measure is part of Brazil’s industrial policy, called New Industry Brazil (NIB), and aims to increase domestic production of health inputs and technologies, currently meeting 45% of national demand, to 50% by 2026 and 70% by 2033.
