Brasília – The Brazilian medical technology industry remains optimistic for 2025, with 45% of companies projecting growth exceeding 10%, according to the latest ABIMED survey, “Termômetro 2025.” This positive outlook is primarily driven by internal strategic decisions, despite external challenges such as a 50% tariff imposed by the United States on Brazilian products, effective since August. While 30% of companies are still evaluating the impact of this measure, 20% anticipate direct effects on exports.
Looking ahead, 40% of respondents expect continued double-digit growth in the second half of 2025. However, 90% are concerned about rising costs due to inflation, logistics, and exchange rates. Among these, 65% report cost increases of up to 10%, and 25% face hikes between 10% and 20%. Despite these challenges, 65% have not reported supply difficulties.
Investment priorities for 2025 and 2026 include new product lines (85% of companies), human resources (90%), and operational infrastructure (85%). Research and development (R&D) investments are also a focus, with 37% planning to increase resources, 32% maintaining current levels, and 26% not planning any changes. Regarding regulatory matters, 58% believe that the creation of a Unified Incorporation Agency would bring more agility, while 21% see it as a means to reduce barriers for new technologies.
In the realm of digital health, artificial intelligence is a top priority: 40% are investing in training, 20% in product development, and 25% are awaiting clearer regulatory guidelines. Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices are also on the agenda, with 35% adopting good practices, 30% focusing on compliance and responsible supply chains, and 20% aiming for clean energy or carbon neutrality. Despite efforts to promote industrialization in Brazil, 70% of companies feel that the current regulatory and political environment does not favor domestic production or industrial expansion.
Fernando Silveira Filho, Executive President of ABIMED, emphasized the sector’s resilience and commitment to innovation as key drivers of growth. He also highlighted the importance of regulatory advancements and strategic investments for the industry’s future.
