Brasília – The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) held a ceremony on Wednesday (10) to swear in its new directors, reaffirming an agenda focused on three pillars: speeding up regulatory reviews, strengthening autonomy and credibility, and fostering health innovation and industrial development.
Leandro Safatle, the new president of Anvisa, stressed the agency’s role as a pillar of life protection and an international reference in regulatory science. He pointed to reducing review backlogs, investing in digital systems and AI, and restoring scientific advisory bodies as key priorities.
Director Daniela Marreco highlighted the vast scope of Anvisa’s regulatory mandate, ranging from cosmetics to advanced therapies. She pledged to shorten product approval times, modernize regulation, and support Brazil’s industrial and scientific capacity.
Director Tiago Campos emphasized Anvisa’s mission to defend the SUS, strengthen technical independence, and ensure that decisions remain evidence-based. He underscored that each regulatory decision directly impacts citizens’ lives and must uphold quality, equity, and safety.
Authorities including Health Minister Alexandre Padilha and senior government officials praised Anvisa’s resilience during the pandemic and its role as both a health safeguard and an economic driver. Padilha also announced the incorporation of a new RSV vaccine into the SUS, produced with technology transfer from Butantan and Pfizer.
