Brasília – The National Supplementary Health Agency (Agência Nacional de Saúde Suplementar – ANS) plans to launch a new model of private health plans centered on preventive care pathways, according to agency president Wadih Damous. The initiative aims to encourage operators to adopt structured models focused on early intervention, chronic disease management, and long-term cost reduction.
Presented during the National Congress of Private Hospitals (Congresso Nacional de Hospitais Privados – Conahp), the proposal seeks to shift the current reactive model of supplementary health toward a coordinated system that prioritizes prevention and continuity of care. Damous stated that the ANS will work with experts and sector representatives to design the regulatory framework and ensure scalability.
According to the agency, preventive models could improve patient outcomes while creating more predictable expenses for health plan providers and potentially lowering premiums for consumers.
