Brasília – The Federal Police (PF) launched Operation Ignota to dismantle an organized network responsible for the clandestine import and sale of weight-loss medicines of unknown origin, distributed through medical clinics. Search and seizure warrants were executed in Rio de Janeiro and São Gonçalo, including at a clinic suspected of storing and prescribing the unregistered drugs.
According to investigators, the operation was initiated after repeated seizures of slimming medicines at airports across Brazil, revealing a broader scheme involving falsified documentation and irregular import routes. The investigation also uncovered the participation of an official from the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), accused of diverting approximately 100 confiscated “slimming pens” from the agency’s custody to private resale.
Authorities warn that such products, imported without sanitary authorization and lacking quality certification, pose serious health risks due to unknown composition and storage conditions. Those involved may face criminal charges for importing and selling unregistered medicines and for handling goods originating from criminal activity. The Federal Police reaffirmed that the operation aims to curb the illegal trade of high-demand medications and to protect public health.
