Brasília – Liposuction has become the most performed plastic surgery in Brazil, according to data from the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS). The country records more than 170,000 procedures per year — an average of almost 600 per day — consolidating Brazil’s position as one of the global leaders in cosmetic surgery.

The study shows that liposuction represents over 13% of all aesthetic surgeries performed in the country, ahead of breast augmentation and abdominoplasty. Specialists attribute the increase to the growing accessibility of aesthetic procedures, the influence of social media, and advances in surgical techniques that allow faster recovery.

Experts, however, warn that liposuction should not be seen as a substitute for weight loss or obesity treatment. It is recommended only for patients close to their ideal weight who wish to remove localized fat. The Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery emphasizes that candidates must be in good health and have realistic expectations, as recovery involves swelling, bruising, and several weeks of limited physical activity.
