Brasília – The new president of the National Supplementary Health Agency (Agência Nacional de Saúde Suplementar – ANS), Wadih Damous, stated that health-insurance companies will have to present evidence when seeking regulatory relief or making broad claims. “Allegations alone will not move me; they will have to demonstrate,” he told Estadão, signaling a stricter approach toward the private health-plans sector.

Damous, who previously led the National Consumer Secretariat (Secretaria Nacional do Consumidor – Senacon) at the Ministry of Justice, said his experience reinforced his focus on protecting consumers. He emphasized that the goal of his administration is to ensure that beneficiaries receive adequate and timely care, while maintaining financial sustainability for operators and preserving access to affordable plans.

He also announced that the ANS will launch a new regulatory agenda built on public consultation, focusing on issues such as the cost control of collective health plans, the promotion of preventive care, and the integration between supplementary health and the Unified Health System (Sistema Único de Saúde – SUS).
