Brasília – A study analyzing nearly 16,000 medical claims between 2019 and 2024 shows that the cost of breast cancer treatment in Brazil triples when diagnosis occurs at advanced stages. According to the report by Funcional Health Tech, patients diagnosed early have an average treatment cost of R$ 41,443, compared to R$ 128,296 for late-stage cases.
The study highlights that early detection not only improves survival but also significantly reduces the financial burden on both the public and private health systems. Experts emphasize that expanding access to mammography and awareness campaigns remains essential to reduce late diagnoses, which account for a large portion of cancer-related expenses in the country.
