Brasília – A study conducted in Brazil has shown that a blood test can accurately detect biomarkers of Alzheimer’s disease, such as p-tau217, with over 90% precision, offering a simpler and less invasive diagnostic method. The discovery could revolutionize early detection of dementia and broaden access to diagnosis across the country.

The researchers emphasize that the studies will continue to validate the results in larger groups of patients and to assess the feasibility of incorporating the test into the Unified Health System (SUS). The goal is to replace complex procedures like PET scans and lumbar punctures, enabling earlier treatment and improving patients’ quality of life.
