Brasília – Hypera Pharma announced that its upcoming injectable pen for obesity and diabetes treatment will be marketed as a similar medicine under its own brand, rather than entering the generic segment. The strategy aims to position the product in a higher-value niche within the expanding GLP-1 market, which includes drugs such as Ozempic and Mounjaro.
According to company executives, the decision reflects Hypera’s plan to build a strong branded portfolio leveraging its distribution and marketing strength in Brazil. The company sees the expiration of patents on key GLP-1 molecules as a “transformative opportunity” for domestic production and innovation, though it intends to maintain differentiation instead of competing solely on price.
The move may influence market dynamics and public access, as branded “similar” drugs typically retain higher prices than generics. Analysts note that the strategy could extend Hypera’s profitability in a market expected to grow rapidly with the global demand for anti-obesity treatments.
