Brasília – A recent study from the corporate health-benefits market indicates that roughly 60% of workers enrolled in employer-sponsored health plans with cost-sharing (coparticipation) admit they hesitate to access the plan when needing care. The research shows that 81% of the plans analysed adopt some form of coparticipation, mostly in the corporate segment.
The modal structure of these plans means that, even after paying the monthly premium, the beneficiary must pay an additional fee or percentage when using services such as consultations, exams or procedures—creating a barrier to use. The effect, analysts say, may negatively affect timely access to care and preventive services, increasing risk of adverse outcomes and shifting costs to the public system.
