Brasília – The Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (Anvisa) has prohibited the manufacture, commercialization, distribution, and advertising of dietary supplements and energy drinks containing ozone. The measure also applies to all existing batches of these products already on the market.
According to Anvisa, ozone is not authorized for use as a food ingredient or component of ready-to-consume beverages. Its permitted use in Brazil is restricted to water disinfection processes, and no scientific evaluation supports its ingestion in supplements or drinks.
The agency also determined the removal of advertising materials that attributed unauthorized health claims to the products, such as benefits for digestive, liver, eye, or cardiovascular health. Anvisa reinforced that dietary supplements may only present claims approved for nutrients, not therapeutic or curative properties.
