Brasília – The associations Interfarma and Anahp promoted a joint webinar to address the growing risks of medicine counterfeiting in Brazil and to strengthen coordinated industry action on patient safety. The event, held on October 30, 2025, brought together more than a hundred participants from pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, and distribution networks.

Speakers highlighted the alarming increase in counterfeit products circulating through informal and online sales channels, which already represent over one-third of counterfeit drug seizures in the country. According to the discussion, the economic impact of falsified medicines and hospital supplies may exceed R$ 11.5 billion annually.

The debate reinforced the need for joint efforts between the public and private sectors — including regulatory agencies, healthcare providers, and industry associations — to strengthen inspection mechanisms, expand public awareness, and improve traceability technologies to protect patients and ensure the integrity of the pharmaceutical supply chain.
