Brasília – The Ministry of Health announced the incorporation of new medicines for breast and rectal cancer into the Unified Health System (SUS), with publication of the ordinances expected in the Official Gazette this Friday (7). The announcement was made during the Brazilian Society of Clinical Oncology (SBOC) Congress, reinforcing the government’s commitment to expanding access to innovative cancer treatments.
For breast cancer, the incorporation includes trastuzumab deruxtecan, an antibody-drug conjugate indicated for HER2-positive and HER2-low metastatic cases. For rectal cancer, the SUS will now offer encorafenib in combination with cetuximab for patients with the BRAF V600E mutation—representing a more effective therapeutic option for cases resistant to conventional chemotherapy.
According to the Ministry, the decision follows a Conitec evaluation confirming clinical benefits and cost-effectiveness compared to existing protocols. The measure is part of a broader oncology agenda that seeks to update SUS treatment lines and align them with international standards of care.
