Brasília – The Ministry of Health has launched the National Congress on Health Technology Assessment (HTA), organized in partnership with the Brazilian Network for Health Technology Assessment (Rebrats), to strengthen evidence-based policymaking and promote innovation in the Unified Health System (SUS). The event brings together government officials, researchers, and specialists to discuss frameworks for incorporating new technologies, financing innovations, and ensuring long-term sustainability in health care.
During the opening session, Fernanda de Negri, from the Secretariat of Science, Technology, Innovation and the Health Complex (Sectics), highlighted the global challenge of balancing demographic and technological pressures on health systems. She stated that “the world’s population is aging, which increases the cost of health care, while the rapid emergence of new technologies—such as gene therapies and precision medicine—raises the cost threshold of treatments, creating an enormous challenge for all health systems.”
The congress underscores Brazil’s commitment to advancing health technology assessment and fostering collaboration among institutions that guide innovation, regulation, and access within the SUS.
