Brasília – At the G20 Health Ministers’ Meeting in South Africa, on Friday (7), Health Minister Alexandre Padilha reinforced Brazil’s commitment to equitable access to healthcare and global cooperation in medicine and vaccine production. He presented the operational framework of the Coalition for Local and Regional Production, Innovation and Equitable Access, created under Brazil’s G20 presidency to strengthen manufacturing capacity in the Global South.

Padilha also highlighted advances in Brazil’s HIV/AIDS response, celebrating the reduction in new infections and deaths while advocating for low-cost treatments and technology transfer to expand prevention and access. He emphasized that “innovation must serve patients and public health priorities.”

In addition, the minister reaffirmed Brazil’s commitment to equitable access to new tuberculosis vaccines, noting that the country has achieved a 19% drop in incidence and mortality since 2023 and aims for an 80% reduction by 2030.
