Brasília – The National Council of Justice (CNJ) is preparing to launch, in December, a pilot project using artificial intelligence to accelerate the handling of health-related lawsuits. Developed by the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of São Paulo (IME-USP) in partnership with Amazon Web Services, the tool is designed to automate up to 80% of administrative tasks and significantly reduce the time required for preliminary review of health cases, a major source of judicial backlog.

According to Folha de S.Paulo, the long-term rollout of the system across Brazil’s judiciary remains uncertain. The pilot is currently supported by AWS promotional credits, and there is no dedicated public budget to sustain or expand the technology. Without federal funding, the project risks stalling despite its potential to streamline workflows and reduce the pressure of health-related litigation—one of the most expensive and complex areas of judicial demand.
