Brasília – The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) published Call Notice No. 23/2025 inviting researchers to submit published scientific studies on the cultivation of Cannabis sativa L. for medical and pharmaceutical purposes. The material collected will serve as the evidence base for a future regulatory proposal on cultivation in Brazil, following a recent Superior Court of Justice (STJ) decision affirming the federal government’s authority to regulate medicinal cannabis cultivation.

The call is strictly technical: no funding will be provided, and submissions will not undergo merit evaluation. A technical commission will compile and analyse the studies and later publish a public report. Submissions are open until 12 December 2025 and may include articles in Portuguese, English or Spanish. Topics of interest include THC and CBD content and effects, analytical methods, plant genetics and agronomy, agro-climatic zoning, traceability, quality-control practices, and regulatory or socio-economic considerations.
