Brasília – Leaders from Brazil’s medical cannabis industry met this weekend in São Paulo for one of the country’s largest sector events, bringing together companies, physicians, investors and policymakers amid growing expectations for federal regulation. According to CNN Brasil, the market sees 2026 as a pivotal year: the Lula government has signaled openness to advancing a regulatory framework, and Anvisa continues to receive increasing numbers of authorization requests for cannabis-based therapies.

Speakers highlighted the rapid expansion of patient demand, the rise of prescription-based products and the economic potential of a regulated supply chain. Companies also stressed that the absence of a clear national rule creates operational uncertainty and unequal access, with states and courts filling gaps through fragmented decisions. Industry representatives argue that a unified federal standard would improve safety, traceability and investment predictability.
