Brasília – The Federal University of Ceará (UFC) grants a patent license that enables the production of a biological dressing developed from tilapia skin. The agreement transfers exclusive rights to a private consortium to produce and commercialize the lyophilized biomaterial for human and veterinary use, advancing an innovation that has been under development at the institution since 2015.
According to UFC researchers, the product acts as a temporary occlusive dressing for the treatment of burns and other wounds. The licensing agreement sets deadlines of up to five years for commercialization in human use and three years for veterinary application, with regulatory approval by Anvisa required prior to market entry.
