Brasília – The director-president of ANS, Wadih Damous, defended prohibiting private health plan operators from unilaterally canceling contracts of elderly beneficiaries. He stated that such cancellations disproportionately affect older adults and people with rare diseases, classifying the practice as abusive.
Damous also proposed the creation of a “medical-inflation index” to guide annual adjustments of health plan fees and suggested capping coparticipation costs at 30% of the monthly premium, with continuous treatments exempt from additional coparticipation charges. According to him, the measures aim to strengthen consumer protection and improve affordability for long-term users.
