Brasília – During the 9th Scientific Forum of the Fundação Hospitalar do Estado de Minas Gerais (FHEMIG), held on November 18 in Belo Horizonte, the Secretary for Science, Technology and Innovation in Health, Fernanda De Negri, emphasized the importance of expanding Brazil’s capacity to conduct clinical trials. She noted that clinical trials are essential not only for improving patient care and enabling access to innovative therapies in the SUS, but also for attracting investments, creating qualified jobs, and strengthening scientific and technological development in health.

Fernanda De Negri highlighted that Brazil currently accounts for around 2% of global clinical trials and ranks 20th worldwide, despite being the 7th-largest pharmaceutical market. She pointed out that the country has structural advantages, including qualified institutions, trained professionals, SUS data integration and demographic diversity, that could position Brazil as a global leader in clinical research. She also stressed that the new regulatory framework for clinical trials (Law 14.874/2024) creates favorable conditions to accelerate studies and expand national innovation capacity in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.
