Brasília – A radiopharmaceutical used for advanced prostate cancer, known as Pluvicto, has shown significant clinical benefits by extending overall survival and reducing the risk of disease progression in patients with metastatic tumors positive for PSMA. Despite results from a recent phase 3 clinical trial, the medicine is not available in Brazil’s public health system (SUS), limiting access for most patients.

The treatment is estimated to cost around R$ 870,000 per patient, and the absence of sufficient nuclear medicine infrastructure and PSMA-PET diagnostics within SUS further restricts incorporation. Physicians and patient organizations warn that access remains confined to private services, widening inequalities in cancer care and limiting the impact of one of the most promising therapies for advanced prostate cancer.
