Brasília – The Ministry of Health and the Brazilian Association of Diagnostic Medicine (Abramed) renewed on November 24 a cooperation agreement to standardize more than 290 laboratory exam codes nationwide using the international LOINC (Logical Observation Identifiers, Names and Codes) standard. The measure aims to ensure consistent data reporting between public and private laboratories and strengthen integration with the National Health Data Network (Rede Nacional de Dados em Saúde – RNDS).
The updated codes are considered particularly important for surveillance of arboviral diseases such as dengue, Zika and chikungunya, improving monitoring, case tracking and response capacity during outbreaks. The agreement also incorporates the new Laboratory Result Model (REL), formalized by Portaria GM/MS nº 8.276/2025, which establishes a unified structure for laboratory data transmission across the country. Valid until November 2027, the cooperation reinforces national efforts to modernize health data infrastructure, enhance epidemiological intelligence and support evidence-based decision-making.
