Brasília – The Ministry of Health confirmed the delivery of 1.8 million doses of the vaccine against the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), the leading cause of bronchiolitis in infants, with distribution to states beginning in December. The immunization strategy will prioritize pregnant women from the 28th week of gestation to protect newborns during their first months of life, when the risk of severe disease is highest.

According to the ministry, the incorporation of the RSV vaccine into SUS is expected to reduce hospitalizations and complications associated with bronchiolitis, especially during peak circulation periods. The initiative integrates broader national efforts to expand maternal and infant immunization and strengthen prevention of respiratory diseases in early childhood.
