Brasília – Advances in prostate cancer research and treatment are broadening therapeutic and diagnostic options in Brazil, reflecting a global shift toward precision medicine. According to recent analyses, new-generation androgen receptor inhibitors combined with androgen-deprivation therapy have shown significant reductions in the risk of metastasis or death in high-risk non-metastatic disease, with survival benefits and a favorable safety profile. These combinations represent an important step in addressing tumor heterogeneity and improving long-term outcomes.
The field is also moving forward with radioligand therapies, which deliver targeted radiation to cancer cells, and with the expansion of robotic prostatectomy, recently incorporated into the public health system. In diagnostics, liquid biopsy technologies — capable of detecting circulating tumor DNA and tumor-specific mutations from blood, urine or saliva — offer the potential for earlier detection and more refined tumor stratification. Specialists note that although many innovations are still under evaluation, they are shaping a future in which prostate cancer may be managed more effectively and with less impact on patients’ quality of life.
