Brasília – The federal government institutes the Política Nacional de Residências em Saúde (PNRS) through Interministerial Ordinance 8.995, creating a unified framework for residency programs across the country. The measure seeks to expand and improve specialist training aligned with the needs of the Unified Health System, with emphasis on underserved regions and priority areas.
The new policy defines structured curricula integrated into SUS services, strengthens supervision and evaluation mechanisms, and introduces incentives such as increased bursaries, housing support in critical areas, and measures to attract professionals to regions with shortages. Authorities expect the PNRS to promote more equitable distribution of residency positions and reduce disparities in access to specialized care.
