Brasília – Data presented in the House of Representatives show that, until August 2025, the federal government allocates R$ 1.84 billion to comply with court-ordered purchases of the ten most expensive medicines demanded through judicial decisions. The numbers underscore how individual lawsuits increasingly strain the Unified Health System’s budget.

During the public hearing of the Health Committee, specialists and government officials emphasize the need to strengthen evidence-based decision-making and improve administrative pathways for access to high-cost treatments. According to participants, the current pattern of judicialization creates inequities, favors those who litigate, and threatens long-term financial sustainability.
