Brasília – A public hearing in the House of Representatives underscores how high taxation on sunscreen and restricted access to dermatologists in the public system hinder effective skin-cancer prevention in Brazil. Experts warn that the current tax burden on sunscreen makes routine use financially unfeasible for many families, while structural gaps in specialist availability limit early detection.

Data presented during the session show that millions of Brazilians have never consulted a dermatologist, with disparities concentrated among lower-income and Black populations. Participants call for fiscal relief on preventive products, broader integration of dermatology into primary care, and expansion of teledermatology to reach underserved regions and strengthen early diagnosis efforts.
