Brasília – The Ministry of Health appoints Meiruze Sousa Freitas, current Director of the Department of Science and Technology, to coordinate the newly established National Authority for Ethics in Research (INAEP). The designation is formalized in an ordinance published on December 5, which also defines the structure and composition of the body.

Created under the new Clinical Research Law, INAEP will act as the national authority responsible for standardizing ethical procedures, accrediting and supervising local ethics committees according to risk classification, and serving as an appeal body for committee decisions. The initiative aims to strengthen governance, improve oversight and streamline ethics review processes for human-subject research across Brazil.
