Brasília – The Ministry of Health launches Formatec-SUS, a national program designed to expand and decentralize technical education to reinforce Brazil’s public health workforce. The initiative offers more than 6,000 seats for technical courses and 15,000 seats for specializations between 2025 and 2026, focusing on priority regions such as the North, Northeast, and Center-West. The first course to be deployed is Technical Training in Orthoses and Prostheses, followed by specializations in nursing, radiology, intensive care, oral health, oncology, and surgical support.

The program targets both current SUS professionals and new entrants seeking health careers. Public teaching institutions will be able to apply to offer the courses through the Ministry’s mapping system. By strengthening training capacity and improving regional distribution, the government aims to reduce workforce gaps, support primary care, and improve the quality and responsiveness of public health services.
