Brasília – The National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS) approved the incorporation of a new medication for ulcerative colitis into the Mandatory Coverage List (Rol de Procedimentos e Eventos em Saúde). The decision expands access to advanced therapies for patients with moderate to severe disease, who often face limited treatment options within the supplementary health system. The agency stated that the incorporation followed technical evaluation of clinical evidence, safety, cost-effectiveness and the potential impact on patient outcomes.
The update reflects ANS’s ongoing efforts to align coverage requirements with evolving therapeutic standards and to ensure timely access to high-complexity treatments. Specialists interviewed noted that incorporating innovative drugs into the Rol may reduce disease complications, improve quality of life and lessen the need for hospitalizations or surgical interventions among affected patients.
