Brasília – Leading Brazilian medical societies issued a new joint alert condemning the use of testosterone therapy and so-called “beauty chips” in women, citing lack of scientific evidence, safety concerns and increasing reports of adverse effects. The statement reinforces earlier positions from endocrinology and gynecology specialists, who emphasize that hormonal implants marketed for aesthetic purposes — including promises of weight loss, increased libido and improved well-being — pose significant health risks and lack regulatory approval.

The organizations highlighted documented harms such as virilization, cardiovascular risks, metabolic disturbances and unpredictable hormonal fluctuations. They also warned that aggressive marketing and off-label prescribing have contributed to widespread misinformation among patients. The societies called for stricter oversight, improved professional guidance and stronger public information campaigns to prevent inappropriate use of hormone therapies in women.
